Nintendo’s confirmed that the third iteration of its DS handheld, the DSi, will launch in the States on April 5, and a European release date surely can’t be far away now! Coming in blue and black models upon its U.S. release, the DSi will cost $169.99, which is about $40 more than the DS Lite currently retails for. If you’re thinking about upgrading from your existing DS or picking up the portable for the first time, you’ll be interested to know that, beyond the fact that it’s slimmer and has bigger screens, the DSi introduces a raft of new features…

The most common of DS Lite models, Polar White and Onyx Black, may soon be discontinued as Nintendo looks to avoid causing confusion when it launches its newest version of the handheld, the DSi, later this year. The white DS Lite has already been discontinued in the States and according to reports, retailers are now beginning to phase out the black model.

It’s unconfirmed at the moment, but the move would make sense seeing as Nintendo’s preparing to release its newest DS model, the DSi, later this year in the West, and initially it’ll probably do so in black and/or white variations. We expect a similar phasing out – of one model at least – to occur on this side of the pond as well a little closer to the DSi’s planned spring-summer launch, so there’s still time to get your hands on one of the classic white or black models if you feel the urge.

Britain is being flooded with hundreds of fake Nintendo DS Lites according to reports in the news today. Although this is bad because the majority of them don’t work, what makes it a real worry is that they are being sold with dodgy adaptors which haven’t been tested and are potentially dangerous.  (source) These machines were bought from Asian-based console websites and had been selling for £40 rather than the nomal retail price of £100. Be careful who you buy from! All the retailers on this site are established merchants, brand names that most of you all recognize – there are a few names you might not be familiar with but they have been thoroughly checked by us and safe to deal with.

In America, the day after Thanksgiving is called ‘Black Friday’. This is when all the retailers have a one day sale – it’s also the busiest shopping day of the year and officially marks the beginning of the holiday season. In anticipation of this, Nintendo have released two Limited Edition DS Lites which are both available for today from Amazon.com. Unfortunately, unless you live in the US you won’t be able to get them. This is what they are:

Mario Red with a Mario M emblazoned on the front, which comes with Super Mario Bros

and

Ice Blue, bundled with Brain Age (ie Brain Training) and a matching DS Lite carry-case.

The GameBoy Advance sold over 81 million units in it’s lifetime, but that wasn’t enough to defeat the almighty Nintendo DS, who has outsold that amount worldwide.

That’s ALOT of DS units out there isn’t it?

We’ve had the Dead Zone, we’ve had the Twilight Zone but all that pales into insignificance compared to the ‘ Nintendo Zone’. Nintendo Zone has just been trademarked in North America  and was mentioned briefly at the Nintendo Media Summit last week.
